01 About the course
Three modules that take you from the S/4HANA development environment to writing your own ALV reports – no prior SAP experience assumed.
This beginner-friendly course provides the foundational SAP ABAP developer skills needed to start writing real ABAP programs and enterprise reports. You’ll explore the SAP S/4HANA development environment, learn core ABAP programming concepts, build module pool applications and SmartForms, and create classical, interactive and ALV reports.
Module one starts with the architecture of S/4HANA and HANA, then walks through navigating SAP GUI, Eclipse and ABAP Development Tools before your first report. From there it covers elementary and complex data types, internal tables and work areas, Data Dictionary objects and custom tables, conditional logic, looping structures and selection screen design.
Module two moves into modularization – subroutines, function modules and object-oriented ABAP classes – and into module pool programming: custom screens, table controls, transaction codes, PF-status and custom button logic, plus creating, displaying and debugging SmartForms.
Module three is reporting: the ABAP List Viewer with both REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY and the CL_GUI_ALV_GRID class, interactive events, Excel upload and download, background job scheduling, the Transport Organizer, and joins with the newer ABAP 7.5 syntax.
02 What you’ll learn
The four outcomes Coursera lists for this course – each one demonstrated on screen, then graded.
03 Who it’s for
No degree and no previous SAP experience is required. Basic programming familiarity can help, but every ABAP concept is explained from the ground up.
04 What you’ll build
Every item here maps to lessons that are actually in the three modules – nothing beyond what the course covers.
05 Syllabus
About 10 hours end to end – roughly one week at 10 hours a week, fully self-paced. Every module lists its exact lessons, reading and assignments.
Lesson titles, durations and assignment counts are taken from the course page on Coursera, where the course is hosted and graded.
06 Tools & technologies
Everything below is demonstrated on screen inside the SAP backend environment – module one covers navigating the development tools before you write any code.
The capabilities this course builds, grouped the way the work actually splits – writing ABAP, building screens and forms, and reporting.
07 Certificate
Add this credential to your LinkedIn profile, resume, or CV. Share it on social media and in your performance review.
The course offers a shareable certificate, issued through Coursera on completion of the graded work across the three modules.
08 Career

Career-relevant roles
This course builds foundational skills. It is not a job guarantee, and Board Infinity makes no claims about salaries or hiring outcomes – roles like these typically also expect hands-on project experience and, depending on the employer, knowledge of specific SAP functional modules.
This course is one course in the SAP S/4HANA: From ABAP to Cloud-Ready Applications Specialization on Coursera.
