One backend journey, from MVC to a React-ready API.
The course takes learners from web fundamentals to backend development - each module builds the layer the next one depends on.
Module 1 covers ASP.NET Core: the framework's architecture, building applications with the MVC pattern, and working with Razor views, routing, forms and validation.
Module 2 goes deeper with middleware, the request pipeline and dependency injection, configures Entity Framework Core using code first and database first approaches, and secures applications with authentication and authorization.
Module 3 builds RESTful services with ASP.NET Web API - REST and HTTP principles, CRUD operations, testing with Postman, routing and content negotiation - then consumes the API from a React front end.

Built for people who know the web and want the backend.
Anyone with basic familiarity with web development concepts can enroll.
Frontend developers moving into backend development
The course FAQ names this group directly - the course ends by connecting your own API to a React front end.
Learners with basic web-development familiarity
Basic programming logic and some HTML, CSS or JavaScript give you enough of a foundation to start.
Developers interested in ASP.NET Core
Architecture, MVC, Entity Framework Core and Web API - in one sequence, starting from the framework itself.
Learners building toward .NET full-stack development
This is Course 3 of 3 in the .NET FullStack Developer Specialization - the backend part of the path.

Introduces the ASP.NET Core framework, its modular architecture, and the MVC pattern for building modern web applications. Learners work with Razor views, layouts, and tag helpers, then move into model binding, forms, and validation. The module builds the foundation every dot net core course needs before tackling data and APIs.

Structured .NET backend learning vs. scattered resources
Documentation, books, videos and free tutorials are all useful. What a structured course adds is a fixed order, checks along the way and something to show at the end.

Common questions
Answered from the Coursera course page and its FAQ.
Anyone with basic familiarity with web development concepts can enroll, including frontend developers moving into backend work. No prior ASP.NET or C# experience is required to get started.
No. The course FAQ states that no prior ASP.NET experience is required to get started.
No. The course FAQ states that no prior C# experience is required. C# (Programming Language) is listed among the tools you will learn.
No formal computer science degree is required. If you understand basic programming logic and have touched HTML, CSS, or JavaScript before, the FAQ says you have enough of a foundation to start.
You will learn how to build web applications with ASP.NET Core and the MVC pattern, manage data with Entity Framework Core, and design RESTful APIs with ASP.NET Web API. By the end, you will be able to build and connect a backend to a front end like React.
You will work with the ASP.NET Core framework, Entity Framework Core, Visual Studio (or VS Code), and Postman for testing APIs. A computer capable of running the .NET SDK is all that is required to follow along.
Yes. Module 2, ASP.NET MVC & Entity Framework Core, covers configuring Entity Framework Core in an MVC application, the code first and database first approaches, and a demo of code first CRUD operations.
Yes. Module 3, ASP.NET Web API, introduces SOA and REST, then covers building an ASP.NET Web API, CRUD operations, routing, route constraints, content negotiation and media type formatters.
