From web fundamentals to a working ASP.NET backend.
Three modules that build on each other: ASP.NET Core, then ASP.NET MVC, then ASP.NET Web API.
Backend Development using ASP.Net takes learners from web fundamentals to backend development with ASP.NET Core. You learn the framework's architecture, build applications with the MVC pattern, and work with Razor views, routing, and form validation.
From there you configure Entity Framework Core using code first and database first approaches, wire up middleware and dependency injection, and secure applications with authentication and authorization - then design RESTful services with ASP.NET Web API.
- Build web applications
- Understand MVC
- Manage data
- Secure applications
- Build RESTful APIs
- Connect backend services to front-end clients
ASP.NET Core
ASP.NET MVC
ASP.NET Web API
Built for developers stepping into the backend.
No prior ASP.NET or C# experience is required to get started - basic familiarity with web development concepts is the starting point.
Moving into backend development
You know the front end and want to understand what sits behind it - controllers, data access and APIs your UI can call.
Basic web development familiarity
You understand basic programming logic and have touched HTML, CSS, or JavaScript before. That is enough of a foundation to start.
Developers interested in ASP.NET Core
You want a structured route through ASP.NET Core, MVC and Web API, with no prior ASP.NET or C# experience required to begin.
Building toward .NET full-stack development
You are working toward full stack roles and want the backend half - data, security and RESTful services - in one course.
Four outcomes, exactly as Coursera lists them.
The learning outcomes published on the course page, with the module where each one is taught.
Build dynamic, scalable web applications using ASP.NET Core and the MVC architecture pattern
Analyze REST and HTTP principles to design and implement RESTful APIs with ASP.NET Web API
Apply Entity Framework Core for database integration using code first and database first approaches
Develop secure, full stack applications with authentication, dependency injection, and a React front end
Teaches this course
Bhawna Gunwani
Taught by real industry expertise, not theory.
Bhawna Gunwani works in backend development, with hands-on experience across C# and .NET, Python, and the MEAN and MERN stacks. In this course she takes you through building web applications with ASP.NET Core and MVC, managing data with Entity Framework Core, and designing RESTful APIs with ASP.NET Web API.

ASP.NET is well documented. So what does a course add?
Documentation, videos and books are all valuable ways to learn ASP.NET, and they work well alongside a course. What a structured course adds is a set order, assessments that check your understanding, curated readings and a certificate at the end.
Course 2 of 3 in the ASP.NET for Experienced Developers Specialization.
The Specialization runs from C# fundamentals to backend development with ASP.NET to microservices and deployment.
C# for .NET Developers
A foundation in C# and the .NET framework - variables, operators, control structures and object-oriented programming.
