An Advanced-level course for experienced .NET developers: microservices architecture first, then Docker containerization, then Azure DevOps deployment.
Microservices and Deployment by using ASP.NET takes experienced .NET developers from architecture to production. Module one covers microservices with .NET Core: the benefits and challenges of the style, designing and implementing microservices-based applications, RESTful APIs, service configuration, dependency injection, database and messaging integration, API gateways, and the basic concepts of containerization and orchestration.
Module two dockerizes .NET Core applications: Docker images, containers and Dockerfiles, registries, networking and volumes, the Docker CLI and Docker commands, and publishing to Docker Hub.
Module three brings DevOps to ASP.NET Core developers: Azure DevOps, Azure Boards, Azure Repos with Git, Azure Pipelines, CI/CD, automated testing and the deployment of microservices-based applications. The course is listed as Advanced level with recommended experience.
The course is Advanced level with recommended experience. It is designed for developers who already have working experience with ASP.NET Core and C#, and it is not intended for absolute beginners.
You build ASP.NET Core APIs today and want to design service boundaries, independently deployable services and an API gateway in front of them.
No prior microservices experience is required. Module one starts with what microservices are and builds the project architecture on screen.
You want to containerize what you build with Docker and automate build, test and release through Azure Boards, Repos and Pipelines.
This is Course 3 of 3 in the ASP.NET for Experienced Developers Specialization, after C# for .NET Developers and Backend Development using ASP.NET.
The four learning outcomes Coursera lists for this course.
Design and build a microservices architecture course project using ASP.NET Core and RESTful APIs.
Build and containerize ASP.NET Core services using Docker images, Dockerfiles, and Docker Hub.
Apply Docker Compose concepts to coordinate multi-container microservices deployments.
Develop CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps to automate microservices deployment end to end.
Teaches this course
Bhawna Gunwani works in backend development, with hands-on experience across C# and .NET, Python, and the MEAN and MERN stacks. In this course she takes you through designing microservices with ASP.NET Core, containerizing .NET Core applications with Docker, and automating deployment through Azure DevOps.
Board Infinity offers 1:1 coaching as a separate career-support pathway. It is not part of Coursera enrollment for this course - it is an optional way to get personal guidance while you learn.

Bring the service boundaries and gateway decisions from your own project to someone who works with them.
Questions about Dockerfiles, image publishing or pipeline setup that go beyond the course videos.

Where microservices, containers and DevOps fit in your own .NET career direction.
Fully self-paced; Coursera suggests 1 week at 10 hours a week. Every module lists its description, what is inside it and every lesson title exactly as it appears on Coursera.
This module provides an overview of microservices architecture using .NET Core. It covers the benefits and challenges of microservices, designing and implementing microservices-based applications, RESTful APIs, service configuration, dependency injection, database and messaging integration, API gateways, containerization, and orchestration.
This module teaches developers how to containerize .NET Core applications using Docker. It covers Docker images, containers, Dockerfiles, registries, networking, volumes, Docker CLI, Docker commands, Docker Hub, and deployment-oriented containerization.
This module introduces DevOps principles and practices for ASP.NET Core developers. It covers Azure DevOps, Azure Boards, Azure Repos, Git, Azure Pipelines, CI/CD, automated testing, and deployment of microservices-based applications.
Lesson titles and durations are reproduced as published on Coursera, including their original spelling. Coursera may update the syllabus over time.
Coursera lists two skills for this course: Microservices and DevOps. These are the technologies and tools the lessons work through to get there.
The framework the services are written in, split into independently deployable RESTful services.
Building, documenting, testing and routing the RESTful APIs behind each service.
Packaging .NET Core applications so they run the same way everywhere.
Planning, source control and automated build, test and release in Azure DevOps.
The two skills Coursera lists for this course, with the course content that builds each one.
Designing and implementing microservices-based applications with .NET Core.
Containerizing .NET Core applications and automating their delivery.

Course 3 of 3 in the ASP.NET for Experienced Developers Specialization.
Microservices, containers and CI/CD pipelines are everyday work in many .NET teams. These are areas where the skills apply. No job, promotion or salary outcome is promised.
Designing RESTful ASP.NET Core services with dependency injection, database and messaging integration.
Splitting systems into independently deployable services behind an API gateway.
Azure Boards, Azure Repos with Git and Azure Pipelines for automated build, test and release.
API development with Swagger documentation and Postman testing as part of a distributed application.
Containerizing .NET Core applications with Docker and publishing images to Docker Hub.
Routing, configuring and launching APIs through an Ocelot gateway in front of multiple services.
Microservices, Docker and Azure DevOps are each documented widely. A structured course mainly changes the order you learn them in, how the pieces connect, and what you can show at the end. Neither approach is universally better; this is what differs.
The specialization moves from C# and .NET fundamentals through ASP.NET backend development to microservices, Docker and DevOps deployment. This course is the final step.
The C# and .NET fundamentals the rest of the specialization builds on.
