01 About the course

One course that goes all the way to objects.

Most beginner Python courses stop at loops. This one keeps going - through data structures and functions into classes, inheritance and file handling.

Dive Deep into Python is a ground-up course for people who want to actually write Python, not just recognise it. It starts with the things every tutorial skips - indentation, identifiers, type casting, how the operators really behave - and does not stop until you are writing your own classes and reading and writing files.

The shape is consistent across all four modules: a short screen-recorded lesson, then a quiz on the same idea. There are 76 lessons and 19 graded assignments, so on average you are answering for what you just learned every four lessons.

It assumes no prior programming background. Module one sets up your editor, walks through Kaggle and GitHub, and gets your first program running before it introduces a single loop.

02 Who it's for

For anyone who keeps almost learning Python.

If one of these is you, the course was built for exactly this starting point.

Complete beginners

Never written code before

You have never opened an editor. Module one starts at what a variable is, and assumes nothing about IDEs, repositories or data types.

Self-learners

Three tutorials in, still stuck

You can follow along but cannot write anything from a blank file. The 19 graded quizzes are the difference - you find out what you actually know.

Analysts

Living in spreadsheets

You have hit the ceiling of what a sheet can do. Lists, dictionaries and file handling are exactly the tools that take you past it.

Students

Need Python for the next thing

Data science, automation and AI courses all assume Python. This is that prerequisite, taught properly rather than skimmed.

03 What you'll learn

Four capabilities, in the order they build.

This is a concepts course rather than a projects course - what you leave with is the ability to write these things yourself, from an empty file.

Module 1–2

Write and reason about Python syntax

Variables, type casting, every operator family, input handling, conditionals and both loop forms - plus strings, which is where most beginners quietly get lost.

Module 3

Choose the right data structure

Lists, tuples, dictionaries and sets - what each one is for, which are mutable, and why picking wrongly makes code slow and fragile.

Module 3–4

Structure code with functions and classes

Functions, arguments and scope, then object-oriented Python properly: classes and objects, inheritance, polymorphism and encapsulation.

Module 4

Work with files and handle failure

Reading and writing files, managing directories, and exception handling - so your programs survive bad input instead of stopping at the first error.

Practice beyond the quizzes

Problems set for you, then reviewed, so the syntax turns into fluency.

  • Pick the right structure between a list, a tuple, a dictionary and a set, and justify the choice
  • Explain which structures are mutable and why that changes how you pass them around

06 Career impact

Python is the entry ticket - and then it keeps paying.

Almost nothing in data, AI or automation starts without it. These are the roles that list it first.

Where this skill is the prerequisite

Python Developer

The direct path. Everything after this course - frameworks, APIs, testing - assumes exactly what module four covers.

Data Analyst

Where spreadsheets stop. Lists, dictionaries and file handling are what let you process data that will not fit in a sheet.

Machine Learning & AI

Every ML library is a Python library. Courses in deep learning and LLMs open assuming you already have this.

Automation & Ops

File handling and exception handling are exactly what scripts that run unattended are made of.

QA & Test Automation

Test suites are written in Python more than any other language, and classes are how they stay maintainable.

Career switchers

The prerequisite that unlocks the rest of a catalogue. Do it once, properly, and stop restarting from module one elsewhere.

The honest comparison

Python is free to learn. So what is this?

Every topic in this course exists free somewhere on the internet. Nobody is pretending otherwise. What a course adds is the order you learn it in, the checking that makes it stick, and something to show at the end.

08 FAQ

Common questions

Everything learners ask before enrolling, answered plainly.

About the course

You'll learn Python end to end across four modules: setup and syntax (variables, identifiers, type casting, indentation), every operator family, input handling and control flow; loops, strings and arrays; lists, tuples, dictionaries, sets and your own functions; then object-oriented Python - classes and objects, inheritance, polymorphism and encapsulation - plus file handling, directory management and exception handling. That's 76 video lessons, 17 readings and 19 graded assignments.

No. The course is built for people starting from zero. Module one sets up your Python IDE on screen, introduces GitHub and Kaggle, and walks through your first program before it introduces a single loop. A basic sense of how computers work helps, but nothing is assumed.

About 29 hours of learning across 4 modules. Coursera's own guidance is roughly three weeks at ten hours a week. It's fully self-paced, so deadlines flex around you - evenings and weekends will stretch it to a month or two, and that's fine.

Nothing in advance. Module one covers setting up a Python IDE, and introduces Kaggle and GitHub as places to write and store code. Everything you need is free.

Career & certificate

Yes. Completing the 19 graded assignments earns you a shareable certificate from Board Infinity, issued through Coursera with its own verification link. Coursera's one-click button adds it straight to the Licenses & Certifications section of your LinkedIn profile.

It's the foundation, not the finish line. This course gets you to the point where you can write and read Python confidently, including object-oriented code - which is the level most data, automation and backend courses assume as their starting point. Roles will also want a specialisation on top: pandas and SQL for analytics, a web framework for backend, or ML libraries for AI work.

Because it's where most beginner Python stops, and it's what separates writing scripts from writing software other people can use. Classes, inheritance and encapsulation are how real Python codebases are organised, and every framework you'll meet later is built out of them.

It depends where you're aiming. For analytics, move to data visualisation and dashboards. For AI and machine learning, Python is the prerequisite for every library you'll touch next. For automation, file handling and exceptions from module four are already most of what you need. The Where to go next section lists three Board Infinity courses that build straight on this one.

It's the default language of data work, machine learning and automation, and it stays the most common first language taught in universities. The specific reason it's worth learning properly rather than partially is that everything downstream - every library, every framework, every AI course - assumes you already have the fundamentals this course covers.
