1. About Myself
My name is Ashish Lepcha and today I’m going to tell you about my journey in Data Science.
It all started in a small town called Kalimpong in West Bengal. I belong to a middle-class family where my father is a government employee and my mom is a homemaker. Like most, I also pursued the science path in my 11th-12th and then went on to take up engineering. Around my 2nd year of college, I came to know about data science and machine learning but never explored the topic in depth. This was mainly due to the fact that I had a lot of subjects to study during the semester.
2. Why, Data Science?
I was always fascinated by how different websites handled user data and stored them in different databases. Because of this, Data Science & ML were always scratching the curious part of my brain. (I just couldn’t get them out of my head)
I started doing a lot of research by myself & started teaching Data Science & ML to myself. After learning the basics, I started taking lots of online courses in Data Science and ML. By the end of the 6th semester, I had built a proper base for Data Science but I had a lot of doubts. Mainly because most of the courses that I took were pre-recorded and it was difficult for me to get my doubts answered.
One afternoon, as I was walking back to my hostel after my college lectures... I saw lots of booths set up. These booths were for organizing online classes and certifications for different courses. I randomly picked one booth and they gave me their pamphlets which had a brief overview of the courses they were providing. This was Board Infinity’s booth and that is how I ended up enrolling in their data science online course.
3. Learning Journey
Since then, I’ve had a very fun learning experience at Board Infinity. The course syllabus was quite interesting and I had lots of fun interacting one-on-one with the coaches. I can honestly say that it was far better than the traditional courses because none of the classes are pre-recorded, the coaches are always available to guide us, we get to learn hands-on through case studies, we receive soft skills training, and a lot more.
The coaches always encouraged us to do projects related to any topic. This really helped me understand the implementation of ML algorithms and they're working in-depth. I also really enjoyed interacting with the coaches to clear my doubts and talk about different ML problems.
I truly enjoyed taking Board Infinity’s classes while also getting to learn different concepts and the hacks used in the actual live projects from industry experts. I would recommend that anyone who wants to learn more about Data Science, Machine Learning, or Big Data have a look at Board Infinity’s courses. You’ll love it!
4. Placement Brief
After I completed my course, I got a 6-month internship at Trell as a Data Science intern. I’m excited to see what’s next for my career.
